Food Loot 16/08/09

Another Food Loot post !!!!

So i went again to the japan food corner and grab few things XD


So there's Sakuma Drops, which is i think somewhat popular in japan...plus advertised in the anime The Grave of Firefly (which is a great tragic movie)..taste quite great too !

Choco Baby, i havent tried it but i supposed it taste like normal choco....candies.......i think~ i'll update later after i ate it~ (and i did, it taste normal tho~)

Lastly but not the least Frans~ pocky type of snack~ with mix berries flavour <3 and then i ate~


Thats indeed..........salmon on hot stone !!! cost me around.......US$5, which is quite ok cause of the size~

Its not that it doesnt taste good, it does~ but somehow i prefer my salmon raw XD the fried rice goes well with the salmon too~ Well i cant say much bout it since my tounge is familiar with most of seafoods...

Food Loot 13/08/09

Well i kinda having some food shop yesterday (well more likely snack food shopping), saw a Japanese snack & food corner in a mall..so i went to check them up~

There are plenty of snacks that quite common...i guess but there are some that quite unique ! So here's the pic of my loot that day



A pretzel !!!! well not really that good...but it was my 1st after i saw a funny commercial of it starring Matsura Aya few years ago XD

those 2 rather cute looking things (the chicken and baby seal) is actually a...........i have no idea what it is called........well my mom usually used it when she make onigiri

that weird looking bottle is a soda drink called Ramune , you have to get it someday...it really surprise me when i opened it...you'll understand if you ever had it~ Its unique in a way.....lol

And that thing.....behind all of those is Dead Space limited action figure from San Diego Comic Convention 2009 !!! i was lucky getting it since it turned up that.............that action figure is actually the last stock~ *a review for it would come a bit late~~~~

Fugu

A deadly japanese food made from fugu also known as Puffer fish; there are few types of fugu but the deadliest one called Tora fugu (Tora = Tiger). Fugu are deadly because of their well known poison and there arent any antidote to cure it (yet). The posionous parts of fugu are liver, ovaries, and the skin.


Fugu sashimi, there are rules that you need to understand before you order it :

• Dont rush the chef, else he might forgotten to cut any hazardous piece
• Dont be afraid to eat the fugu, the fugu chef will feel insulted if he/she catch you being afraid because he/she takes a long time to get the liceanse.
  
• Dont take fugu from other people plate (if its not a full set like the above) the chef most probably calculate the amount of poison that can be handle by certain person thus taking out other people fugu would unbalance the amount of poison.
• When you feel numbness on your lips, dont get panic......its normal, tho it is the 1st sign of fugu poisoning; unless the effects are spreading, hope the hospital is near.

Fugu sashimi could cost between $20-$200+/set. Why is it expensive?

• The chef need a liceanse (which could take 10years+)
• Only available on certain months (around winter)
• Cutting the fish need a special knife called fugu-hiki
  

But dont need to worry so much about eating them, scientist at Nagasaki Univ. have found a way to breed non-toxic fugu tho there are some parties that doubting about it being poisonless...for me, i think it takes out the challange of death/semi death posibility from eating fugu.

I have never tried fugu dish before, but i'm going to try it someday later when i see any liceansed shop, tho perhaps i will need to sign in my last will letter (just in case...)

Okonomiyaki

A Japanese pizza..thingy~

i love foods, sometimes i always look out for foods that i haven't tried when i'm going to some places.
(=^ _ ^=)

When i went into a mall, i encounter this small food shop..i was thinkin "oh a japanese food shop
Okonomiyaki....never heard of it", so i went inside and tried it.

There are few japanese people as the chef and waiter/ess..i asked for a teppan seat, so i can see how they made it.

While i was waiting, the owner of the shop approached me and hand me out a japanese newspaper......but....i cant read japanese (T o T) perhaps i look like a japanese to her ? it remains a mystery.

After waiting a while, its done..when i saw the size of it, i'm thinkin its actually served for 2 person coz its quite big, but i guess i can handle it alone; Since i like spicy food..i put quite a lot of okonomiyaki sauce. It taste GREAT !! so great until it burned my tounge (x_x) but then again Yebisu beer cool it out.

After i search for some information, i learned that there are few types of okonomiyaki and the one that i had is Hiroshima style of okonomiyaki...i wonder what other okonomiyaki taste like...

oh well, hope to find another type of unfamiliar foods around (=^ o ^=)
